Slaying The Green Eyed Monster

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Samantha Stevens He hasn’t called in hours. You call and get the roommate: “Oh, sorry ….he got in really late last night and is still asleep!” Your mind starts racing: “What did he do last night?” Your heart starts to pound. You feel sick to your stomach.. Uh, oh… you’re jealous. You feel like you can’t live with yourself one more minute until you find out what is going on … suddenly, the potential threat to the relationship becomes the most important thing in the world … more important than eating, working or concentrating on tasks at hand. More important than … living life itself. According to Canadian psychiatrist Dr. Irving Walkoff, “Nobody escapes jealousy. It is a natural human reaction that finds its basis in evolutionary biology. The roots of this are ancient and Darwinian —part of “the survival of the fittest.” You see the other woman as being somehow better than you — the assumption is that they are better at adaptation, better at seduction, a better parent … in short are more fit to continue the species than you … this triggers a fight or flight response in many people. Jealousy is there to protect you and your DNA — the desire to pass on your DNA is your portal into the future.” It might be perfectly natural to experience jealousy, but in most religions, this emotion is still considered to be ugly and morally repugnant — a feeling to be stifled with either copious amounts of prayer (Christian) or by practicing zen detachment from object attachment (Buddhism). In the 13th century the Italian writer St. Cyrus wrote that “he who becomes jealous imitates the Devil.” . Canadian psychiatrist Dr. William Pennell Rock affirms that jealousy is a spiritual crisis. “Most people make the mistake of thinking they own another person …your problem is not with your partner, but with a God so cruel and perverse that he would actually consider manifesting a threat that might take your partner away from you. It also doesn’t help that most of us see the one we love, as our direct connection, a way of having love channeled to us from God. Unfortunately, people are fallible so that is aconnection that ultimately cannot be trusted. So, is there any way of slaying The Green Eyed Monster before it rears it’s ugly head and becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Nobody wants to stick around a green-eyed monster for long. According to Rock, one must learn the difference between attachment and love. “The truth of love is that it is unconditional. Attachment is quite different… Attachment is not care for the other; it’s care for oneself. This distinction has to be understood: Are you loving? Or are you attached? If you are attached you are going to experience the pain of jealousy. It follows that jealousy becomes the opportunity to see within yourself the truth of attachment. Not theoretically understanding, but existential awareness of attachment at its very roots. Only through this awareness can jealousy really be transcended.” Marion Woodman, authour of “Addicted To Perfection” says some of us choose to be jealous, simply because we are addicted to creating drama. “We will create a crisis, whether the partner is in the picture or not.” That’s why so many people still create scenarios about the departed partner or imagine what they might be up to months after they have been abandoned. That .It is better to be attached to a negative memory, or even torture yourself with a negative thought that links you to the partner, rather than face the abyss of being alone. The bottom line is that a healthy person is able to choose the way they perceive any situation. Both psychiatrists and moralists describe jealousy as being crisis of faith. You are not so threatened by the fact that your partner might leave you, but more by the idea that God won’t take care of you if he or she does…perhaps the best way to slay the Green Eyed Monster is to slay the ego, have faith and learn how to take care of the self. Evaluating Job Offers for Teaching Abroad

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Michael Hines You have decided on teaching abroad so you are off on the job hunt. Aside from the obvious considerations such as what country to work in and what training/qualifications to obtain; there are other things a teachers should consider when looking at potential job offers. There are many factors a teacher considers which will affect whether they accept a position. The most obvious factor would be the content of the position. What is the school asking of you as a teacher? You must ask yourself if the job is interesting and fits into your career plans as a teacher. The person you will be working for is also an important consideration so you must take the time to talk to them either via email or phone. It would also be beneficial to ask to speak to other teachers from the school to find out their impressions. Knowing what the job is and whom you will be working with are the first step in deciding whether to pursue it further. Some may say that the most important consideration would be salary and benefits but these should be a secondary consideration to what you want to do and who you will be working with. Regardless of the salary paid, most people will not stay at a position where they feel unsatisfied or have no growth. In addition, the people you work with or for have an enormous impact on your job satisfaction. However, when considering salary and benefits, do not focus as much on the starting salary but rather on the potential for growth and increases. Does the school have growth potential for you as a professional? Do they spell out cost-of-living increases and meritorious raises? Benefits are other areas that can supplement a position where the starting salary is not as good as you would have wished. Get a list of benefits from the company and formulate any questions you may have regarding them so that you can better discuss the position with management and other teachers at the school. Another factor that may come into play with many teachers when evaluating a position is the resources provided by the school. Teachers spend a large majority of their time preparing for upcoming lessons. This requires readily available resources such as teacher books, computer, printer, internet access, and preferably a reference library. In addition, there should be a work area set aside for teachers to plan and prepare. You should also look at whether the school already has a set curriculum/syllabus and student books because you may be asked to help to create these resources for your school year if they are not provided. I have known many teachers that have felt the need to move on because of the demands of planning for a school year without adequate resources. Searching for a position is difficult. After spending many hours on a search, making a careful decision regarding a job offer is important. Getting an offer does not necessarily mean you should take the job. Most employers will not expect you to make a decision on the spot. You will probably be given a few days to a week to make up your mind. If they are unable to provide you with the time to make a decision then you should not consider this as a viable position. On the other hand, if you decide to go with a school without finding out the proper information, don’t blame the school when the position turns out not to be what you expected or wanted. Weighing the advantages and disadvantages of the job will help you make a more informed decision, rather than deciding on impulse. To help you find that perfect (or near perfect) job, you should ask these questions to all prospective employers: What is the salary? How many months is the contract?Do/Can you sponsor me for all paperwork, including teacher’s license, work permit, and visa extension? How soon can you get this paperwork processed? How many hours will I be teaching? What kind of insurance is on offer? When are the starting and ending times for work?About how many events a month are teachers required to attend outside normal working hours (teachers’ meetings, parents’ meetings, school festivals, seminars, etc.)?Does the school have/provide books?Does the school have whiteboards or chalkboards? Does the school provide all teaching materials needed? What are the items provided?Does the school require that I attend/teach a summer camp?Is there a discipline policy? What is it and how is it enforced? What are the details of contract “extras” such as:Resigning bonusesBiannual or annual plane tickets to visit homeHousing allowances (if no housing allowance then ask about help finding accommodations along with cost in the school area)Internet access both in and outside the schoolRaise schedules Michael Hines is the founder of http://www.TotalESL.com, a free resource helping the ESL/EFL community for jobs, resumes, schools, resources, yellow pages, classifieds, information and lessons. 3 Most Common Ways to Meet/Find Women and The Good Points With Each Way

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Teddy Shabba The three most common ways that a man can meet/find a woman are online, bars/clubs, and chance. Of course we all realize that each different way is going to have both its good and bad points. In this article the focus is going to mainly be on the good points of each different way. 1.) Online Dating Online dating allows you a chance to meet women who don’t fall into the same circle of places that you go to, but, otherwise would be a good fit for you. Its also open 24 hours 7 days a week so you can browse when you want to browse and still find the same women you would have at any other time. If you are moving to a new state or city far away from where you live currently it gives you a chance to talk to women there before you even have moved. 2.) Bar/Clubs If you want to see and meet a lot of single women going to a popular bar on a Friday or Saturday night is a good bet. Following rejection up with a nice stiff drink is always an option to ease the pain although not highly recommended. 3.) Chance When you take a chance anything is possible and the risk is minimal in reality and only gets smaller in perception with each and every chance you take. When you get right down to it the good points isn’t what really determines if you do it or not when it comes to meeting women, it is the amount of risk it takes the lesser the risk the greater amount of men that will take the chance. Even though, the greater the perception of risk is the greater your chances of actually getting the girl. How Don Juan DeMarco Can Teach Men How to Attract Women

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

By Teddy Shabba Don Juan DeMarco is a movie about a man who truly believes that he is Don Juan the greatest lover the world has ever known. Men who want to learn how to attract women can learn a lot by watching and modeling Don Juan Demarco. The very first scene has Johnny Depp who plays Don Juan dressed in 17th century garb and at first appears is taking place in the 17th century, yet it takes place in modern day. Don Juan is comfortable with who he is even if the women with whom he is with are not. When you make a woman enter your reality and refuse anything else youalso control the outcome since anywhere she goes in your reality is new for her. When talking to a woman instead of telling her what he is going to do to her, he tells her what happens when a man really knows how to make love with a woman. When he also takes her hand and begins demonstrating the whole process he not only uses it as an anchor but allows her to become comfortable with his touch and actually begin to crave it even more. All of this occurs in the first 10 or so minutes of the movie and if you were to watch only the first ten minutes of the movie you would have more than enough to learn about attracting women. Throughout the movie Don Juan understands that he in a different reality than the one in which he perceives, however, all the women in the movie are more than happy to live in his reality rather than there own even if only for a moment. Don Juan’s recognition that a woman is beautiful no matter what others think is a very important point as well. Many times men don’t go after a woman they find attractive not because they don’t want to but because they fear what others might say. When you realize that what you like is what you like and nobody’s opinion matters but yours, you will find a door open to women that you might not otherwise have known. Overall this is a great movie for men to gain an understanding of what it takes to attract women. When a man perceives his own reality to be very high women will naturally be attracted to him because what he has to offer is something much more exciting or different than anything in there own reality, even if the only difference is in the perception. While it is not necessary to go to the extreme of a Don Juan, I am sure you can find things in your own reality in which you can make the perception much greater than the reality. An Elizabethan Madrigal Dinner (Part 1)

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Andrew Krause A madrigal dinner is a wonderful way of going back in time, it shows just how people lived during the Elizabethan era and here is how it goes. The Great Hall is where the dinner is held. Ye Order Of Feaste The wassail is to be used as a toast Please refrain from partaking till the appointed time. Although the cost was shocking, there was keen competition among Queen Elizabeth’s subjects to entertain Her Majesty when she passed through their counties on one of Her numerous summer progresses. In 1576 Sir Roger North was honored at his estate by the “Queen Majesty’s coming thither on Monday the first of September supper and tarrying until Wednesday after dinner. “The honor cost Lord North a bundle, most of which was paid to serve the Queen and her enormous entourage meals like the one we are about to be served. The Lords account book showed that among other things he purchased a cartload and two horse loads of oysters, 430 pounds of butter, and 2,522 eggs. In anticipation of the glorious event, he had put up a banqueting house and some new kitchens. He also hired special cooks from London to augment the dozens of people already on his serving and kitchen staff. For most of Elizabeth’s hosts, such generosity paid off, not only in preferments, but equally important, in friendship of the monarch. Fanfare The First Announcing the seating of ye guests by ye jesters Fanfare The Second Announcing the procession of ye singers, Wassail Bowl, and the Toast to the Occasion Gloucestershire Wassail… English “Wassail” was an old Angelo-Saxon drinking pledge Waes-Hael which means,” Be in good health.” At early Saxon feasts it was customary to drink a wassail to the Lord of the house, and thus the wassail bowl became a feature of English events. Also, the custom of wassaling the fruit trees was common throughout England. Men went out to the orchards with a large jug of cider and there they drank a toast to the trees, often beating them, bidding them bear fruit in the coming spring. Spain and it’s Canarie Islands produced the Elizabethan favorite wine, Sack, a type of sherry. Some gentry preferred a still sweeter and richer drink called hippocras, compounded of white wine, sherry, nutmeg, cloves, Jamacian pepper and sugar, a concoction that was to survive in later times as a Christmas or New Year’s punch. Fanfare The Third Announcing the passing of ye viands The Mince Pie Long before Francis Bacon wrote that “mincing of meat in pies spareth the grinding of the teeth,” mixtures of spices and liquor had been used to preserve perishable meats and fruits. By the seventeenth century, mince pie had a politico-religious connection. At Christmas time, cavaliers would bake rectangular “coffins” or crusts, for the spicy filling and often created monstrous affairs weighing over 100 pounds. Finding Your Best Hairstyle

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

By Toni Johnson We see them everywhere; on TV, on magazine covers while we wait in shopping lines, and sometimes,on occasion, on a friend or a stranger. Just seeing a great hairstyle and falling in love with it is only the bare beginnings of creating a whole new you. Before sitting in your stylist’s chair and expecting miracles from him or her, let’s discuss what you need to take into consideration before those scissors touch a single strand. First of all, consider your lifestyle. Do you work indoors in an office all day? You can afford to spend the extra time on your look should you desire since there should be nothing working against your hair such as wind or rain. Or are you out in the elements? Perhaps you go to the gym after work and need a style that dries by itself and yet still looks presentable? A precision cut or permanent wave may suit this type as they both would dry stylishly on their own. Longer hair of course should be clipped up in the wind to protect its health as well as its beauty. Secondly, how much time do you really have to spend in the morning to create your fabulous look on a daily basis. Not how much time you’d like to spend or think you will, yet the harsh reality of how many actual minutes on the ticking clock do you have before you really need to hit the road to work or school? An everyday look should fit into your routine. Should you only need a few, quick curls, then plugging in the old curling iron every morning will become second nature having it ready for a couple of quick applications. Do you shower in the morning and would rather have a cut that you can just blow dry or flatiron and have it lay right in place? Your style will demand more trips to the salon for trims as any style that has that precision cut to keep it low-maintenance will have to have the style kept “in shape”. And this doesn’t necessarily mean a short haircut as medium length styles can have blunt lines or textured ends to speed up the styling process having them styled straight or perhaps in a little “flip”. Have a little more time to spend on your do? Perhaps you would like a little more body or curl. Large, loose curls are are the rage now, ranging from gigantic 3-5 vertical curls that are left undisturbed to fall freely during the day to the more time-consuming S-waves. Should you prefer the latter on a regular basis, you should consider a design-wrap perm to lock these defined patterns in and cut your styling time way down. This will be less damaging to your hair in the long run as you won’t be applying the direct heat from appliances on a daily basis. So now you have an idea of time and environment. The next step is the hardest. Your head and facial shapes, as well as your neck structure are all very important things to consider in determining how well you might carry off that cute style you just saw. Unless you are fortunate enough to have a perfect oval face, a well defined jawline, a sleek neck of average length, all of which are well-balanced enabling you to wear short, medium or long styles of any type, you need to face the facts that you probably cannot wear just any hairstyle that you fall in love with. Brush all your hair back off of your face, clip it or place a headband. What do you see? An oval, a square shape? Heart? Is it oblong? Or Diamond shaped? Square, Heart and Oblong shapes usually tend to have “high foreheads”. These require a part close to the center that allows hair to fall along the temples and covers up the majority of the forehead. Though the best remedy for this situation are bangs, or as they call them abroad, fringe. Bangs cover or break up areas that we would prefer to disguise. Diamond and Heart shaped faces have very narrow chins and styles that hit about the jawline is best to help “fill in” this weak area. Or a longer style could be worn with layering in this area that may be textured with curls which would also serve the same purpose. However, Square and Oblong shapes have thick, wide jawlines and it’s best to draw attention away from this area. These face shapes should not have a hairstyle that widens this area further. Hair should be flat (straight) against the sides of their chins or at least much longer or shorter to draw attention up or down away from the chin or jawline. Remember this can apply to anyone with a double chin or thick throat area as well. These same rules apply to the top of the face. A short forehead, one who has a hairline that comes down close to the eyebrows, also needs camouflaging. Bangs are an option here. Diamond, Square and Oblong shapes do not want hairstyles that comb back to expose these flaws. It’s best to allow hair to fall on the forehead somehow to disguise your less than perfect hairline. A Diamond or Oblong shaped face needs to be very careful to avoid hairstyles with fullness across the nose and eye level as these styles will only make their face shape appear wider here. Neck length can appear shorter or longer according to your needs, depending on your style and its length. This physical characteristic is often overlooked. Now to discuss your hair color. Yes, it’s something you really need to consider as it can make or break any hairstyle. You can have the best haircut in the world for you, however, if the color is all wrong, it ruins the whole look. For those of you, who already color their hair or are considering it, know these important factors. Black and very dark shades are not just for the young-at-heart, they are for the younger and younger looking crowd only. These unforgiving colors will only harshen the features of anyone who has found themselves with fine lines and wrinkles. Very fair, porcelain skin should steer clear of very light shades as this usually washes them out. Determine if you are a warm or a cool color person. Yes, it’s something else to think about, yet it is a good thing to know not just for hair color, yet for makeup color and clothing colors as well. While some folks are lucky enough to wear either one, some look only good in one or the other. Look good in pinks, blues, or violets? These make you a “cool color person”. Only look good in warm colors? Then you usually select reds, oranges, or yellows. Green is a neutral shade and some colors steer away from their usual temperature. For example, red can be cool if it has purple undertones like say a burgundy and yet it can be quite warm if it has more of an orange cast to it. Why is all of this important? Well, if you are a cool color person, you cannot wear true reds or an auburn hair color unfortunately. Ever see a redhead wearing purple clothes? This is an extreme example, yet I think you get the picture. Likewise if you only look good in warm colors, anything violet, blue or possessing a blue cast would be out of the question. Yes, there IS a lot to consider when you are talking beauty and fashion. However, once you sift through all the determining factors and find what really works best for you, you’ll learn to really spot a great haircut or style that would be perfect for you instantaneously. And shopping for clothes and makeup will become much easier and fun! Spare yourself the heartache of crying yourself to sleep knowing your hair will take forever to grow out from a bad style. Find a stylist who will really, truly listen and who has this knowledge and then some. ALWAYS take pictures with you when you want to make a hairstyle change. Not only will you know both of you are on the same page about your looks, you will reap the rewards of all your homework and knowledge. And feeling better about yourself can only lead to more confidence and a better outlook on life in general. Mystery Shoppers Enhance Tradeshow Performance

Friday, August 17th, 2007

By Susan Friedmann Everythings perfect. The display is beautiful, your team is well-trained, youve got fantastic giveaway items and the best pre-show promotion youve ever had. This is going to be the absolute best tradeshow ever. Are you sure? You might be the last person who can answer this question honestly. Its not that you dont want to — its that you cant. Lets face it. After youve spent weeks, even months, planning, preparing and practicing your exhibit routine, youre no longer objective. Youre too close to your work to see it as a stranger would. This is no fault of your own. Its human nature. We cant engage with our work and distance ourselves from it at the same time. Yet it is critical that our tradeshow performance be excellent. Your organizations financial well being depends in part of what attendees learn about your company from your exhibit. How will you know, at the end of the day, what they thought of your booth? This is where the mystery shopper comes in. By stopping by your exhibit and doing a little covert surveillance, the mystery shopper can provide you with a critical and fair assessment of your performance. This skilled professional will assess your booth on many levels. Was your team as polished as you thought they were? Was that clever signage really that funny? Did the giveaway items appeal or were they just so much more stuff to haul around the show floor? The mystery shopper can tell you. Getting an objective opinion of your exhibit is one very valuable and valid reason to hire a mystery shopper. Its not the only one. Theres another reason to consider hiring a mystery shopper, especially if you have a larger company with several display teams. When the cats away, the mouse will play. Its an old saying, with more than a little modern truth to it. Any time the boss is out of the office, for example, employees tend to slack off a little bit. Its a good time to chat and surf the web. What happens when its not the boss whos away, but the employees? If youve packed up your sales team and shipped them across the country to a tradeshow, how do you know theyre performing up to your standards? We all like to hope that professionalism and responsibility will carry the day. Employees who do a good job all the rest of the year will probably continue to do well in the tradeshow environment. It might be a safe bet — but do you want to take chances with your companys reputation? If the answer to that question is no, you have a few options. The first is to go to the show yourself, and keep an eye on things. If you cant go, you could delegate this duty to a trusted supervisor. If that doesnt work, or you want a wholly objective opinion, you can hire a mystery shopper. Mystery shoppers walk the show floor, and will visit your display. Without identifying themselves, they assess your teams performance. Were they greeted promptly? Did your team ask qualifying questions? Was the level of professionalism and product knowledge displayed in keeping with your companys expectations? The mystery shopper will let you know. These professionals are not only objective, the best ones are well versed in what makes an effective tradeshow exhibit. Simply knowing that a mystery shopper will be stopping by the booth can act as a de facto cat for your booth staffers. When they dont know who the important attendee they have to impress is, all attendees become important. Thats good news for your company! You might also opt not to let your team know about the mystery shopper. This way, the mystery shopper will get to assess the exhibit as it really is, without any special pretense or put-on behaviors. If your team is doing a good job, the mystery shopper will see that. If things arent as you might wish them to be, the mystery shopper will see that too. The mystery shopper can let you know of any performance problems. The first step to improved performance is to have an accurate assessment of the current exhibiting situation. This assessment will allow you to identify weak areas and pinpoint performance problems — information thats critical to have if you want to formulate solutions. Thats what a mystery shopper can provide. From critical exhibit assessment to objective performance review, the mystery shopper provides a critical service to the exhibitor. Everyone can benefit from having a fresh set of eyes on them, from fledgling exhibitors to the old pros. Consider having a mystery shopper work with you on your next show. Youll be amazed what you can learn. Written by Susan A. When Should You Use a Cute Pick Up Line?

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

By Scott Patterson Pick up lines are a risky way to start a conversation with women. When you use them, you run the risk of looking like a fool. What I usually recommend to my readers is to look for genuine conversation starters instead of using a lame pick up line. But if you can’t think of anything to say, you can try a cute pick up line. The key is to make sure it comes across as a genuine compliment. If you make her feel special, you’ll at least be able to continue conversation. The rest is up to you. To get started, here are a few different cute pick up lines that you can use. Like I said before, pick up lines aren’t the best way to start a conversation. But at least these won’t make the girl slap you: “I don’t think I have met you before, because I would have certainly remembered a good-looking woman like you” “I can’t believe I have been here the whole night and when I see ‘The One’, I have to say good bye” “Were you always this cute or do you have to work at it?” “You’re so how that you could make Satan sweat.” “I’ve had a lousy day today. It always makes me feel better to see a pretty girl smile. So would you smile for me?” “Are you as beautiful on this inside as you are on the outside?” “Is it hot in here, or is it just you?” “Weren’t you on the cover of Vogue?” “I am not drunk. I am just intoxicated just by being around you.” “Haven’t we met beforeoh yeah, you’re the girl with beautiful smile!” “Right now I feel like Richard Gere, because I am standing next to a Pretty Woman.” “I now that milk ‘does a body good’, but damn girl, how much milk have you been drinking?” “If God made anything better then you, he would have kept it for himself.” “There aren’t enough O’s in the word hot to describe how hot you are.” “Hey, please don’t frown, because you never know when someone might be falling love with your smile.” Trying to use a cute pick up line is not the best way to engage a conversation. Double Your Crops

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

By Linda Gray Is there too much digging and not enough harvesting going on in your garden? Try these ideas to make your garden work harder for you without breaking a sweat! Rotation: When one crop comes out of the ground, quickly turn the earth and plant something else straight away. This could be late summer lettuce or over-wintering salad varieties. Some beans can be successfully planted in the autumn, in particular broad beans, along with late cropping cauliflowers and other brassicas. Make small cloches to protect the young plants from autumn weather. Cut a clear plastic bottle in half to produce two min-cloches! What you plant as a second crop will depend heavily on your region, climate and availability of seed. However, when this crop comes out in the Spring, there will be far less weeds than if you had left the patch fallow all winter. Don’t do this every year as the earth will need feeding and resting, but even a small garden can be divided into rotatable patches, and if you get double your crops from one space, you won’t need the extra space every year. Pile on as much green manure as you can and keep your fallow patch weed free. Companions: Plant your crops close together so those pesky weeds don’t get a chance to grow. Companion planting enables you, not only to save space in the garden and control the weeds, it will also help with pest control. A line of onions next to a line of carrots confuses the onion fly and the carrot fly! Plant your good companion plants close together but avoid putting large crops of the same species too close. Plant a tomato plant here and there round the garden, then if one plant gets a disease, it doesn’t easily spread to the other plants. The same with cabbages. The cabbage white butterfly, dreaded enemy of brassica growers everywhere, won’t be so attracted to your garden if the cabbages aren’t neatly planted in rows. Raised Beds: Not only good for controlling the weeds and saving space for those extra crops, but also great for controlling aching backs! The raised bed system in principal means you don’t walk on your beds, and therefore they should be no wider than a couple of metres, preferably less. You need to be able to reach everywhere on the bed without stepping onto the soil at all.Once dug, fill with your plants and hoe regularly. When your first crop is harvested fork over the soil lightly. It shouldn’t need any heavy digging again for some years. Permanent Patches: Keep permanent patches in your garden. A small herb patch or corner in your vegetable garden will attract bees and also give you and your family lots of new tastes, natural medicines and even cosmetic preparations. Herbs will establish themselves fairly quickly and will thrive with regular picking. You honestly won’t know what to do with all those wonderful fresh herbs, that would otherwise cost you a fortune in the supermarket. Another great permanent patch to create is asparagus. Most new gardeners are put off growing this wonderful vegetable because of all sorts of crazy reasons. I’ve even heard it said that it’s a “luxury crop” - whatever that may mean! Asparagus is extremely good for you, is ready to pick during the ‘hungry gap’ in the vegetable garden, and best of all, with very little attention, it will produce more and more every year. Create a permanent asparagus bed and indulge in the luxury! Indulge in the healthiest hobby in the world - produce your own food and feed your family well!
